The Programs
Committee is pleased to report that we had a very
successful November program with Alden Solovy, Most
Wired Magazine’s executive director, describing the
Lessons Learned from the Top 100 Wired Hospitals. The
event, hosted in the Twin Cities with Rochester and
Duluth participating via video conferencing, was very
well attended and well received by the attendees.
Two important events are coming up over the next
two months, so mark your calendars! The events are the
Chapter's Annual Advocacy Program and the HIMSS-MN
Chapter reception at the 2008 National Conference. Tom
Keefe, HIMSS Senior Director State Government Relations,
will be flying to the Twin Cities for a January 31st
evening program on the 2008 Legislative Agenda that
HIMSS supports. This will help our Chapter membership
prepare for Minnesota State caucusing the following
week. This event is free for all our chapter
members. Event

The
complimentary reception at the National conference has
become a solid tradition for the Chapter and for many
Minnesota attendees. It is THE place to be on Monday
evening of conference week where networking, food, wine
and good cheer are in abundance. This year, the
reception it is being held at the Peabody Hotel just two
blocks from the Orlando Convention Center. Event

members with at least five years membership and active
participation within the organization must apply to this

meeting several criteria based on professional
capability, experience, leadership and service to their
profession. Less than 2% of Minnesota chapter members
have attained this advancement. Congratulations to Mr.
Galbus for achieving this
recognition.
Communications
Update Sue Green, CPHIMSS,
Communications Chair
Thank you to our Minnesota HIMSS Members!
After careful consideration we've selected a new look
for our web site and newletters. Our new website look
was posted just in time for the New Year!
The
HIMSS Board would like to thank all members that
participated in submitting pictures as well as those who
voted. We've reached our goal to customize our website
and letterhead to be more Minnesota friendly with our
four new pictures as a banner on our web pages. We did
this with your valued photographic
assistance.
.... and the winners are a Fall Woods
Scene, Deer in Spring, Serene Summer Lake with a Canoe,
and Mighty Lake Superior in Winter. The transition
between scenes really displays Minnesota's true changes
in seasons as well as supports our objective in the
transformation of healthcare.
Once again a "big"
thank you to all who participated in making this
selection, we hope you enjoy the new
"look".
Membership Mark Rubin, Director
At-Large
Our chapter
membership statistics reveal a spike in membership at
the end of the calendar year that continues in the early
months of the next year. We attribute this to the
success of the National Conference. With this backdrop,
our chapter has had a very stable membership over the
last four years and we appreciate all members who renew
their membership. The networking opportunities and
remote access to the educational events continue to
provide value to our local chapter members.
Since
the last newsletter, our membership has grown from 450
to 505 members. The members are from the following
locales:
If
you know any colleagues that would be interested in
joining the chapter, they can easily join by visiting http://himss.org/ASP/membershipHome.asp.
They can join at the national level for $140 or the
chapter level for $30. Both memberships provide for
complimentary registration at our evening or short
education programs and a discount at the national
conference
Sponsorship Update John Eichten & Dan Fitzgibbons,
Sponsorship Co-chairs
The Minnesota HIMSS Chapter wishes to
thank our 2007-2008 sponsors. Our sponsors not only
allow us the capability of providing educational
sessions with nationally acclaimed presenters but also
to provide scholarships each year for candidates in the
industry. Without corporate support, an organization
such as ours could not exist. Thank you for your
support!

National Chapter Innovation
Award Pam Graves,
President
Beginning
in 2003, the Minnesota chapter has made it a tradition
to think of innovative educational programs that would
not only provide up-to-date information to our members,
but provide the information in a way that was either
novel (video conferencing in 2003 to the North, South
and Twin Cities) or unique to our state.
While
the program chairs select and produce the educational
events, the Board strategizes about how to showcase our
chapter at the National level. In each of the previous
three years, the Minnesota Chapter has submitted an
application to the National committee for consideration
in the Innovation award category. In the previous three
years, the Minnesota chapter has won one of the awards~
either First place or runner up.
This year, the
chapter was proud of two initiatives: the journey to the
highest recognition for a Chapter in Advocacy- the
Ambassador level, and our publication of the educational
programs on the web in podcast and powerpoint format.
The Advocacy application showcased our engagement of
membership in an effort to improve the legislation that
affects our ability to produce progress in electronic
medical records. The second effort made it possible to
hear the entire program if members were unable to attend
in person, or if members wanted to review information
from these programs.
Unfortunately, we have just
heard that our chapter did not win one of the awards
this year. The good news is that this shows that more
chapters are all producing innovative initiatives that
will aid all the chapters and members.
