Board of Directors
President, Tamara J Winden
Tamara is employed as a Health Informatics Specialist in the Division of Applied Research which is part of the Center for Healthcare Innovation at Allina Hospitals and Clinics. In addition, she is an adjunct faculty member at St. Mary's University of Minnesota teaching Health Informatics. Tamara has worked in the field of informatics for 15 years first in clinical laboratory informatics and more recently in general health informatics doing consulting for EHR implementations and currently in health informatics research. Tamara holds a BS in Medical Technology from the University of Minnesota and an MBA with a concentration in Information Management from the University of St. Thomas and is currently working towards a PhD in Health Informatics at the University of Minnesota. She has been an active member of the Minnesota E-Health Advisory Committee and has served on the HIMSS-MN Board of Directors for the past 3 years. Tamara can be reached at mnpresident@himss-mn.org


Past President, Ken Stensvold, MBA, FHIMSS, CPHIMS
Ken Stensvold has been employed by Mayo Clinic since 1995. He currently works in IT for Quality Management Services. Ken manages the IT team that is responsible for the collection and reporting of quality data on the enterprise level. Prior to coming to Mayo Ken enjoyed a career in the Air Force. In 2001 he completed his MBA at Cardinal Stritch University with a thesis on Outsourcing strategies for IT services. His undergraduate degree is in Computer Science from Winona State University.

President-Elect, Hunt Russell
Hunt C. Russell is Co-founder and Vice President for 7 Medical Systems, a healthcare SaaS (Software as a Service) provider headquartered in Minneapolis, MN providing EMR hosting solutions along with PACS/Teleradiology solutions for small to mid size healthcare organizations. He has 24+ years of healthcare and IT experience. He has worked previously for the Navy as a naval officer stationed at the Oakland Naval Hospital located in Oakland, CA and the Naval Medical Center located in San Diego, CA where he managed the IT Departments at both locations over 7 years. His career moved him to Eau Claire, WI where he became part of the Luther Regional Healthcare System (now part of the Mayo Regional Health System). He has held management and executive positions with two other companies since then focusing on providing solutions to small to mid size healthcare organizations in the Midwest. Hunt received his undergraduate degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and an MBA from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, CA. He is presently also on one of the Minnesota Medical Group Management Association committees focused on healthcare education for medical clinic personnel. Treasurer, Bill Thomson
Bill has over 21 years of financial experience at Mayo Clinic. The last 10 years he has been providing financial and analytical support to the Mayo Clinic Information Technology department. In 2007, he transferred into the Information Technology department to expand and enhance the financial support for the Infrastructure Services area. Bill has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Winona State University and a Master of Arts in Organization Management from Concordia University in St. Paul. Secretary, David Zapeda
David Zepeda is a Ph.D. candidate in the Supply Chain and Operations Department at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management. In conjunction with the Ph.D. degree, he is also pursuing an M.S. degree from the University of Minnesota’s School of Statistics. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Milwaukee School of Engineering and a master’s of Business Administration from the University of Tulsa. He has over 10 years of experience in the industrial automation and publishing industries holding various positions in engineering and management as well as consulting. His research interests include health care supply chain design, management of technology, service operations, logistics management, lean practices, and operations strategy. His current research focuses on how to design and implement clinical information technologies to serve as a mechanism for delivering high-quality, cost-effective, and timely care to address the growing gap between supply and demand of quality health care. Programs Director, Chris Cathers
Chris Cathers has over 14 years of business development experience in a variety of industries. Chris is with Assurity River Group, www.assurityriver.com, an information security and business continuity consultancy headquartered in Minneapolis, MN. Chris works with healthcare organizations to ensure patient records and information are secure, available, recoverable and compliant with applicable mandates, including HIPAA Security and PCI.
Prior to Assurity River Group, Chris was an account executive for a Management and IT consulting firm where he was responsible for relationship development, marketing and sales of PMO development, Program and Project Management, and Business Analyst services. Programs Director-Elect, Shyamala Bhat
Shyamala has over 17 years of Information Technology experience in the Financial Services, Manufacturing and Health Care domains. She has worked in technical and managerial capacities especially in the field of software project management and delivery with virtual teams across the world. She is currently working as an IT Project Manager for Mayo Clinic in the Radiology area. She has a Masters in Computer Science and an MBA in Software Enterprise Management from India. Member Relations, Amy Watters
Amy Watters, MA, RHIA, is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Health Information Management Graduate Program at the College of St. Scholastica. She has more than 10 years of HIM experience. Her career has included a variety of positions, including release of information experience, HIM and admitting management experience in acute care settings, product management experience at a software and consulting firm, and HIPAA security experience at a multi-specialty physician group. Amy received her graduate and undergraduate degree in HIM from the College of St. Scholastica. She has served on the board of the Minnesota Health Information Management Association and is currently serving as president of the Northeastern Minnesota Health Information Management Association. Communications Chair, Micah Heisler
Micah is a Healthcare Consultant with OptumInsight, where he collaborates with business and technology departments to define deliverables and develop solutions. He creates written and oral communication materials that effectively summarize findings, support fact-based recommendations and provides appropriate detail to substantiate conclusions. Micah has worked in information technology for the last 7+ years and most recently in health care. Micah received his Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law and has a B.A. in Economics with a concentration in Management from St. Olaf College. Regional Coordinator (South), Bob Kirchner
Bob is an Informatics Nurse Specialist at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. He has been employed at Mayo for 15 years and in his current position since 2007. Bob’s role in the Nursing Informatics Division is to facilitate the implementation of technology into nursing practice. He has worked with the development and implementation of clinical systems in both inpatient and outpatient areas and most recently he was the Nursing Informatics Lead working on the Barcode Medication Administration project. Bob has over 25 years of clinical nursing experience. He attained his BSN from San Jose State University and his MSN and MBA in Health Care Management from the University of Phoenix.

Regional Coordinators (Twin Cities), Liz Murphy and Varma Jampana
Liz Murphy has over 20 years of experience in a wide range of leadership positions in healthcare including Medicare, PBM, Clinical Management, Consulting and most recently Sales. Liz is with Charter Solutions, Inc www.chartersolutions.com , an innovative Information Technology Solutions company specializing in Management Consulting, Integration, Application Development, and Experienced Consultant Professionals. Liz works with a variety of companies on projects large and small. Prior to joining Charter Solutions, Inc, Liz was an Independent Consultant focusing on Healthcare Project Management. She has completed various successful implementations, migrations and branding efforts in her career. Liz holds a BA in English from the College of St Catherine’s and a MBA in Healthcare from The College of St Thomas. She is a member of the Women’s Health Leadership Trust and this is her second year as a HIMSS Board member.

Outreach Chair, Lance Guth
Lance Guth is currently the Director of Business Applications for Mayo Clinic Health System. Lance has been involved with Healthcare Technology for 12 years, having previously worked for LSS Data Systems, the Meditech partnered practice management software vendor. A graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls IA, Lance’s goal, in this position, is to increase the awareness of outreach or rural areas for the need to adopt and use health information technology in order to improve health care quality, increase patient safety and reduce health care costs. Student Affairs, Eric Pool
Eric Pool has been employed by Mayo Clinic since 2007. He currently works as a Project Analyst in the IT Project Portfolio Management Office assisting in project management activities and creating metrics for the section. He has completed his Master of Business Management degree through Cardinal Stritch University and is currently working towards completing a doctoral program in Business Management with a focus on Project Management. Physician Liaison, Paul Kleeberg
Dr. Paul Kleeberg, is the Clinical Director for REACH, the Regional Extension Assistance Center for HIT, funded by the recovery act to assist small hospitals and clinics in North Dakota and Minnesota to adopt and become meaningful users of electronic health records. Dr. Kleeberg is board certified in Family Medicine and has been in private practice in a small town in Minnesota as well is in a large integrated delivery system. He has made the conversion from paper to electronic health records in his practice and has played key roles in EHR implementations in both hospitals and clinics.
Dr. Kleeberg received his medical degree from Stanford University and completed his residency in Family Medicine at the University of Minnesota. He is a fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and in the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and serves on the HIMSS board of directors. He has chaired several workgroups for the Minnesota e-Health Advisory Committee and chairs the Meaningful Use Community of Practice Advisory Team for the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC). Midwest Fall Technology Conference, Margaret Senn
Since 2003 Margaret Senn, MS, RN has been an Informatics Nurse Specialist at Mayo Rochester. Prior to this she was the RN Coordinator - Computer Projects involved with the implementation of the Automated Medication Dispensing Devices. Ms. Senn has worked with the development and implementation of clinical systems in critical care, general care, OB, and outpatient clinic settings. She has held a leadership position in the Kappa Mu Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau and is also a member of HIMSS and MINING. Margaret can be reached at senn.margaret@mayo.edu


At Large - Programs, Mark Rubin
Mark Rubin is currently Business Development Manager at HealthBPM, a nationwide healthcare consulting group based in the Twin Cities, servicing both providers and payers. With over 16 years in various healthcare-related roles, Mark has consistently helped organizations optimize performance and increase profits while concurrently improving patient care. Prior to joining HealthBPM, Mark held several sales leadership roles within organizations providing a range of products including a cloud-based Electronic Health Record solution, an Electronic Content Management solution and 3-D radiology imaging software. Mark also has a strong technical background which he developed through roles in field service, computer network integration and consulting and in customer service management. Dharani Ramamoorthy is the CEO and founder of Xylo Technologies Inc. He has accumulated over fifteen (15) years of project management, systems administration, software development and IT consulting experience. His prior work experience includes companies such as Mayo Clinic, IBM and Seagate where he served as a senior IT consultant. His expertise covers a vast arena of programming languages, projects including: database driven web and client server applications. During his tenure as a consultant at Mayo, he was part of the team which developed an Enterprise Image Viewer application called QReads which is used by Clinicians to view different image modalities and the associated radiology reports in the same application.

Justin Wampach graduated with a BS from St. Cloud State University in 1995. He has leadership experience as the Campus Information System Director at St. Cloud State University and the Director of Digital Media with EDTECH. Justin was the Co-founder and President of Digital Green, a company he helped build from $0 to $7M in sales with over 100 employees in two states. Justin’s latest venture is a small internet based physician scheduling software program. Call Scheduler currently has customers throughout the US and Canada. Justin has served on the United Way of Central Minnesota board, and actively serves on the St. Cloud State University Phi Kappa Tau Board of Governors and St. Cloud Rotary Board of Directors.
